A strange particle that has mass when moving in one direction and loses mass when moving in another direction was first theorized more than a decade ago. These mass-transfer particles can now be glimpsed in metalloids exposed to extreme conditions.
“this [particle] It's very strange. Imagine walking down the streets of New York. If you go straight, you are very light and have no mass. But if you rotate it 90 degrees to the east or west, it becomes super huge.”
