Observational astronomers hate the moon. This may surprise some people. After all, the moon is beautiful, the closest celestial object we can observe, and a major feature of the night sky on Earth. But that spotlight itself is a problem. When the moon is out, its glare can obscure almost everything else. If you’re looking for small details or objects deep in the sky, that’s a problem.
There will also be two meteor showers in just the next few months, each occurring within days of the full moon.
