A group of fundamental particles long theorized but thought to be physically impossible may exist after all. Known as paraparticles, if we can detect them, they may one day have unusual applications.
Paraparticles are not a new idea, but physicists have previously dismissed them as unrelated to physical reality. This concept has its origins in the division between known fundamental particles, which are always classified into one of two groups: fermions or bosons.
