The world’s largest known quantum computer contains 1180 quantum bits (qubits) made from extremely cold, electrically neutral atoms. One of the prerequisites for creating truly useful quantum computers is to make them bigger, that is, to build them with more qubits. But the composition of those qubits is also important, and if qubits are made from ultracold atoms, quantum computers will only perform calculations accurately if each atom is in the right place…
