Not everyone experiences a terrible hangover. The research partially explains the gene inherited from parents, frequency of experiencing hangovers, and the possibility of getting one. The Aldh2 (ALDH2) gene is crucial in alcohol metabolism, with some having a variant affecting alcohol response. However, genes alone do not tell the whole story. A Dutch study found that hangover severity decreases with frequency and age, and mental resilience and mood are factors in hangover experience.
