NUH Data Loss Incident Does Not Affect Patient Care

NUH has confirmed that the recent data loss incident has no impact on current patient care. The hospital stated that no patient information was accessed or used inappropriately as a result of the incident.

Andy Callow, NUH’s chief digital information officer, announced that the hospital has conducted a thorough investigation into the incident and has implemented enhanced technical controls and processes to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Moreover, NUH is currently under investigation by the police following allegations of harm or deaths involving over 500 mothers and infants due to systemic failures. These failures, as reported by the hospital’s obstetrics department, include understaffing, lack of employee training, and failure to address parents’ concerns. The investigation, initiated in June, is ongoing.

Additionally, a local police investigation in June 2025 revealed that files containing the records of numerous NUH obstetric patients were intentionally or maliciously deleted but were later restored by the hospital.

The recent data loss incident is also being examined by Nottinghamshire Police to determine any connection to the wider case of maternity care-related injuries and deaths, potentially leading to criminal charges. Nottingham Maternity Family Group expressed deep concern over the data losses, stating that affected families should not worry about the security of their experiences being recorded.
