China’s Geely Unveils New Super Fast Charging Battery Technology
Chinese automaker Geely has once again raised the bar for electric vehicles with its latest breakthrough in fast charging technology. The new battery developed by Geely can be charged at an impressive 2.2 MW, allowing for a 10 to 70 percent charge in just 4.5 minutes. Even a full 98 percent charge can be achieved in under 9 minutes, making refueling an electric vehicle almost as quick as refueling a traditional gas-powered car.
One of the key innovations behind this new technology is the use of predictive thermal management powered by artificial intelligence. With an average pack temperature of 55 degrees Celsius and peak temperature of 65 degrees Celsius during charging, Geely ensures optimal battery performance and longevity. In fact, Geely claims that their AI system can extend battery life by up to 20% by reactivating lithium ions that accumulate in the negative electrode during rapid charges.
This groundbreaking technology has already been tested with Geely’s own Zeekr 001 and Lynk and Co 10 models, hinting at the potential for other brands under the Geely umbrella like Volvo and Lotus to adopt this cutting-edge technology in the future.
