The next Jumanji film will bring back the franchise’s principal cast and return to the premise of avatars and animals escaping into the real world. The trailer also shows the characters being pulled back into the game, where a new series of body-swapping mishaps leaves them in unexpected avatars.
Returning cast
The entire main cast will return. Dwayne Johnson will reprise his role, alongside Jack Black as Shelley Oberon, Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse, Bebe Neuwirth as Nora, who also appeared in the 1995 film, Morgan Turner as Martha, Madison Iseman as Bethany, Kevin Hart as Nklin “Mouse” Finbar, Nick Jonas as Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough, Awkwafina as Ming Flatfoot, Alex Wolff as Spencer Gilpin, and Ser’Darius Blain as Fridge Johnson.
Rhys Darby will return as Nigel Billingsley, while Danny DeVito will play Spencer’s grandfather, Eddie. Dan Hildebrand plays Donatus, and Jack Jewkes plays Tyson. Burn Gorman, Nasim Pedrad, and Brittany O’Grady will also appear in roles that have not yet been disclosed.
New avatar swaps
In the trailer, avatars and animals emerge into the real world, echoing the events of the 1995 film. Before long, everyone is drawn back into the game and must deal with a new set of body-swapping complications.
Spencer’s mother, Janice, played by Marin Hinkle, becomes the avatar of Bravestone, while Spencer takes on the avatar of Ruby Roundhouse. Donatus, who works in the kitchen, becomes trapped in Shelley Oberon’s avatar, and Nora’s nephew Tyson ends up in the avatar of Finbar the Mouse. Although Tyson is too young to wield a bazooka, he does have a cool backpack.
Jumanji: Open World is scheduled for release in theaters on December 25, 2026.
