Scientists have finally discovered what’s at the center of a nearby supernova explosion. Supernova 1987A was the first stellar explosion that we were able to track in detail since it began, and we now know that it left behind a hot neutron star.
There are two objects that can remain after a star explodes into a supernova. One is a neutron star, a dense stellar corpse composed primarily of neutrons. The other is a neutron star.
