Monitoring the activity at the nest closely, along with the group. Live updates are provided. In addition to the sounds of birds of prey, daily summaries are shared about Jackie and Shadow’s future.
For example, on Thursday, Shadow visited the nest four times and spent three hours and two minutes there, according to the report. His soon-to-be father also brought Jackie a fish.
This week, the nonprofit organization is on the lookout for signs of a “pip,” the first tiny crack or hole in an egg shell that indicates a chick is ready to emerge.
“When the chick reaches its maximum size inside the egg, the amount of oxygen delivered through the egg membrane becomes insufficient. Sitting comfortably inside the egg is no longer an option; it goes and works hard. The time has come!” Friends of Big Bear Valley explained in a Facebook post at the beginning of the week.
The organization also mentioned that the hatching process usually takes one to three days and is “a very painstaking process.”
“This is a big test for the chick,” they wrote.
All three eggs in the nest were laid several weeks ago, the first on January 25th, the second on January 28th, and the third on January 31st.
