A young girl achieves victory in one of Japan’s top fighting game tournaments with a fighting puzzle game that predates her birth.
Dubbed “Money Idol-chan” after the games she competed in, she grew up honing her skills in competitive video games. Her parents have been operating Anegasaki Shooting Star, a small arcade on the east side of Tokyo Bay, since 2022. The girl’s identity remains undisclosed, with her age only disclosed as between 12 and 16 years old.
Her participation at Evo Japan, a local offshoot of the American esports tournament that represents the apex of competitive fighting games, marked her debut in an actual competition. Until this year, the event usually concluded past her bedtime, extending late into the night.
