Scientific funding is rarely a bad thing, and it must be viewed as positive, towards increasing knowledge about the greatest threat to humanity. Therefore, the £81 million recently scheduled by the UK Advanced Research & Invention Agency to improve our understanding of the “tip point” of extremely dangerous climates is greatly appreciated. But the way prizes are framed is not actually the case.
According to the agency, the funds support the creation of early warning systems (EWS) that “confidently predict when the system will be tipped in,” in addition to keeping the timing of conversions and outcomes.
