“Most people were happy to accept a slightly more bulbous nose than before.”
KD Leperi/Alamy
In the past, “nose work” mentioned cosmetic surgery procedures to improve someone's nose shape. By the mid-21st century, a person's sense of smell was enhanced and meant a super-super-smelling procedure. In this case, people have gone from the standard number of 6 million olfactory receptors in their nasal cavity to over 100 million, the average for dog noses. The sense of human smell has now been comparable to that of dogs.
This is not without challenges.
