Countries differ in how strictly they adjust the chemicals in tattoo ink

Whether it’s an ankle butterfly or a soccer team logo across your back, tattoos have long been seen as a way to express personality and sometimes have cultural significance. However, research is only just beginning to damage the surface of potential health effects.
Tattoo pigments are made up of many chemicals. In the European Union, the laws of registering, evaluation, approval and restricting chemical substances set a concentration limit of about 4,000 compounds on such pigments, primarily due to cancer concerns.
