NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Willmore shared their thoughts on their recent mission during their first public appearance since returning to Earth.
Speaking at a news briefing at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, Williams and Wilmore discussed the unexpected challenges they faced during their mission, which lasted over nine months instead of the initially planned one week.
The duo’s mission began in June with the test flight of Boeing’s Starliner capsule, but they encountered issues with the vehicle’s thrusters during docking, leading to the extended duration of their stay.
Wilmore acknowledged the unpredictable nature of spaceflight, emphasizing the importance of trust and personal responsibility in such missions.
Williams and Wilmore returned to Earth in SpaceX Dragon Capsules after a longer-than-expected stay on the ISS, joining NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian astronaut Aleksandr Gorbunov on their journey back.
