When you go to a restaurant, you will often see different dishes printed on the menu along with their calories. The calories in a chicken burger and fries can be 1597 kcal. If you replace meat with a plant-based alternative, the calories can rise to 1746 kcal. Choosing vegan bacon ketchup adds an additional 300 kcal.
From 2022, these calorie labels will be compulsory for restaurants, cafes and takeaway chains in the UK.
