Housing developers in the UK are struggling to meet the biodiversity requirements laid out in planning conditions, often neglecting commitments to plant trees, create wildflower meadows, build hedgehog highways, and install bat boxes.
As of last year, housing developers must now achieve a 10% net gain in biodiversity or habitat for all new developments in the UK. This is a shift from previous policies that encouraged various ways for developers to contribute to nature conservation.
