
National assessment of drug use in the US is a key tool in combating the opioid epidemic

On April 1, the US government suddenly fired all 17 people running the country’s only national survey of substance use and mental health. For over half a century, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) has tracked these issues across the United States and informed physicians, researchers and policymakers. The future is now uncertain. Because it is not clear who will take over the task.
