Huge deposits near Mars' equator may be made of water ice

There may be a huge sheet of ice hidden at Mars' equator. The composition of this deposit, known as the Medusae Fosse Formation, has long been debated, but new data suggests it contains enough water to cover the entire surface of Mars in an ocean 1.5 to 2.7 meters deep. It was shown that it contains a lot of water.
