In 2022, the world dumped about 268 million tons of plastic waste, but 14% of that (approximately 38 million tons) were recycled, according to a new analysis. The rest were burned or perhaps dumped in landfills.
Despite growing concerns about the public health and environmental impact of plastic pollution, the global recycling rate of this material has been stagnating for years. Is it time to admit the defeat of plastic recycling?
