Electrosynaps, which convey messages through the brain, were first artificially designed in mammals and changed their behavior. This could prevent or treat a variety of mental health conditions, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Connections or synapses between neurons are either electrical or chemical. Chemicals more common in mammals involve molecules called neurotransmitters, but electrosynapses rely on proteins called connexins.
