Robert F. Kennedy Jr. discusses the “existential threat” that he believes could devastate the nation.
“We have the highest burden of chronic illnesses compared to any other country in the world,” Kennedy stated during a January Senate hearing to confirm his appointment as the Secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services.
Starting on Monday, he embarked on a tour of the Southwest to advocate for programs targeting chronic diseases and to emphasize the importance of nutrition and lifestyle.
Despite this, since Kennedy assumed his role, significant grants and contracts focusing on diseases like obesity, diabetes, and dementia, which are widely recognized as major health concerns in the nation, have been cut.
These programs varied in size and budget, with experts warning that their termination could mean missed opportunities to address key aspects of public health that Kennedy has identified as priorities.
