More than a century ago, explorers from several countries competed to reach the southernmost tip of the Grove, driven by fierce international competition. A new race is currently underway in Antarctica. This time, we are motivated by the need to understand one of the most serious threats facing humanity.
Other ancient climatic records exist, but only ancient ice near the poles maintains a complete record of atmospheric carbon dioxide levels and temperature.
