Biology: Biological research. The scientists who study them are known as biologists.
cancer: Any of over 100 different diseases, each characterized by the rapid, uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. The development and growth of cancers, also known as malignant tumors, can lead to tumors, pain and death.
Develop: To appear or to exist. (In biology) it grows as an organism from conception to adulthood, often undergoing changes in chemistry, size, mental maturity, and sometimes shape.
fat: Natural oily or greasy substances that occur in the body of plants and animals, especially when deposited as layers under the skin or around certain organs. The main role of FAT is as an energy reserve. Fats are also an important nutrient, but excessive consumption can be harmful.
Invasive: an adjective that refers to something that can invade some environment (such as an invasive species) or alter the environment (such as an invasive medical procedure).
laser: A device that generates a strong beam of monochromatic coherent light. Lasers are used in excavation and cutting, alignment and guidance, data storage, and surgery.
Materials Scientist: Researchers studying how the atomic and molecular structure of a material are related to its overall properties. Materials scientists can design new materials and analyze existing materials. Analysis of the overall properties of a material (density, strength, melting point, etc.) can help engineers and other researchers choose the best material for their new application.
molecule: An electrically neutral group of atoms representing the amount of a possible amount of a compound. Molecules can be made of a single type of atom or of different types. For example, oxygen in the air is made up of two oxygen atoms (o2), but water is made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom (H2o).
logic: A type of tissue used to generate movement by contracting cells known as muscle fibers. Because muscles are rich in protein, prey species seek prey that contains a lot of this tissue.
National Science Foundation: The US Congress established this independent federal agency in 1950 to promote scientific advancement. Health, prosperity and welfare of the people. And the defense of the country. In many areas such as mathematics, computer science, and social science, NSF is a major source of government funding.
Opaque: Cannot block light and cannot be ignored.
organ: (in biology) various parts of an organism that performs one or more specific functions. For example, the ovaries are organs that make eggs, the brain is an organ that has the meaning of nerve signals, and the roots of plants are organs that take in nutrients and water.
real time: A term that implies immediacy. Something is being researched, recorded and/or reported when it is happening.
I’ll calm down: (n.) A term for a calm, sleepy or extremely relaxed state. (v.) To calm, sleepy, or relax an individual (often by using drugs).
Transparent: Allows light to pass through so that you can clearly see the objects behind you. Or information that allows others to understand the hidden people, processing, and impacts behind a product, action, or proposal.
wavelength: The distance between a series of wave peaks and the next peak, or between one trough and the next trough. It is also one of the “criteria” used to measure radiation. The visible light, like all electromagnetic radiation, travels into waves – containing wavelengths between about 380 nanometers (purple) and about 740 nanometers (red). Radiation with wavelengths shorter than visible light includes gamma, x-rays, and ultraviolet rays. Long-wavelength radiation includes infrared, microwaves, and radio waves.
