A key ocean current that carries warm water to the North Atlantic Ocean is weakening faster than previously thought, according to a model simulating the impact of meltwater from the Greenland ice sheet.
Given the rate at which the world is currently exceeding emissions targets and the rate at which Greenland's ice sheet is melting, the strength of ocean currents could decrease by as much as a third within 15 years, researchers say. They say:
