Many years ago, I wrote a feature New Scientist At the time, the innovation in waste water treatment, known as urine separation toilets, seemed to be a desirable accessory for environmentally sensitive people. To shorten the long story, the Western habit of using clean water to flush urine away is very useless to separate it again in sewage plants. Toilets that collect undiluted urine individually and place it in order to process it into fertilizer will save a lot of energy and water.
