Human urine matured under the sun for at least a month appears to be both a fertilizer and an effective pesticide. The findings are particularly useful in combating insect invasion in West Africa, where soil quality is usually low and traditional pesticides are expensive.
Farmers who participated in previous trials in Niger to investigate the use of urine as a fertilizer also found that there was also a pesticide effect as plants treated with fertilizer were less than pest damage than patients.
