Chemicals: Substances composed of two or more atoms that bond in specific proportions and structures. For instance, water is a chemical formed when two hydrogen atoms bond with one oxygen atom. Its chemical formula is H2O. The term “chemicals” can also describe the characteristics of materials resulting from various reactions between different compounds.
Family: A taxonomic group that includes at least one genus of organisms.
Feed: To discover something, particularly food. It is also a term used for the food consumed by grazing animals like cows and horses.
Gene (adj. genetic): Segments of DNA that provide the instructions for producing cellular proteins. Offspring inherit genes from their parents, influencing their physical appearance and behavior.
Genetic: Pertaining to chromosomes, DNA, and the genes within DNA. The study of these biological instructions is known as genetics, and professionals in this field are called geneticists.
Limbs: (Physiology) Refers to arms or legs.
Molecule: An electrically neutral collection of atoms that represent the smallest unit of a compound. Molecules may consist of single types of atoms or combinations of different types. For example, the oxygen in the atmosphere is made up of two oxygen atoms (O2), while water consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom (H2O).
Octopus: (pl. Octopia or octopuses) A marine mollusk characterized by a soft, sac-like body and eight arms. With two rows of suckers on each arm, octopuses can grasp and hold objects. Related to squids, these creatures possess beak-like mouths and keen eyesight.
Sea: Refers to an ocean or a portion of it. Unlike lakes and rivers, seawater, or saltwater, has a salty composition.
Shell: A rigid, protective outer covering, which can encase mollusks and crustaceans (like mussels and crabs), bird eggs, or soft tissues that require protection (such as nuts and peanuts).
Seed: A collective of similar organisms capable of surviving and producing offspring that can also reproduce.
Taste: The sensory perception elicited by receptors (taste buds) on the tongue (and other organs), one of the basic methods the body uses to interact with the environment, especially when it comes to food.
