The White House seems to have retracted billionaire Jared Isaacman’s nomination to lead NASA, with President Donald Trump indicating that a new nominee will be announced shortly.
While the White House did not clarify the reasoning behind this decision, spokesperson Liz Houston stated, “It is crucial that NASA’s next leader aligns perfectly with President Trump’s American agenda.”
In December, Trump mentioned Isaacman, a billionaire entrepreneur who has no prior experience in federal government, during the nomination announcement for the NASA administrator position.
Isaacman has traveled to space twice on commercial missions that he funded personally.
“NASA’s leadership will guide humanity into space and support our ambitious mission to fulfill President Trump’s vision for a presence on Mars,” Houston said in her statement.
According to Semafor, the expectation was that the White House would withdraw Isaacman’s nomination on Saturday.
This action comes as Isaacman was on the verge of a potential confirmation hearing. The motion regarding his nomination is scheduled for a vote on Monday, as per the Congressional calendar.
