Amidst a year of dark, bloody fantasy games and studio closures, the 2025 BAFTA Video Game Awards were brightened by cute robots. Sony’s family-friendly Astorobot platformer swept five categories, including Best Game and Game Design.
Other winners included the Oil Rig Thriller, which secured three awards, online shooter Helldivers 2, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. The British Game Awards featured a unique Yorkshire-based adventure game, Baratoro, which won for best debut game.
Surprising victories included metaphor: Rifantagio for storytelling, Neva for artistic achievements, and Vampire Survivor for evolving game. The Game Beyond Entertainment Award was given to Tales of Kenzera: Zau, inspired by Bantu Mythologies.
The prestigious BAFTA Fellowship was awarded to legendary composer Yoko Shimomura for her contributions to games like Street Fighter II and Kingdom Hearts.
