Many Spotify users worldwide are experiencing difficulties streaming music through the app due to technical issues that occurred on Wednesday. Tens of thousands of users have reported problems, with over 48,000 suspension reports on Worldwide’s Spotify according to Downtector.
In the UK, the number of people reporting issues peaked around 1:30pm BST, 30 minutes after the problem started. By 3pm, the number had decreased to around 10,000.
After two hours, Spotify confirmed that the service was back up and running. A message was posted on x at 5:08 PM thanking users for their patience and directing them to contact @spotifyCares for further assistance.
Users reported being able to play downloaded music on their devices but were unable to access artists or use the search feature. Some mentioned that the platform was slow or unresponsive.
When attempting to search for music, the app appeared to timeout and displayed an error message prompting users to try again.
Frustrated users took to social media to express their dissatisfaction, noting that the outage disrupted their gym sessions and daily routines.
A spokesperson for Spotify addressed the issue, acknowledging the outage and reassuring users that they are working on a solution. They denied claims of a security hack.
No further details were provided regarding the cause of the problem. However, Spotify confirmed that they are addressing search issues and releasing updates to users among their 675 million worldwide users.
