What causes male pattern baldness?

“Baldness is caused by hair becoming smaller,” he says Paul Kemp, CEO of HairClone, a company aiming to develop next-generation hair loss treatments. “They’re not really lost. They just get smaller and smaller and less visible.”
The reason our hair shrinks is because of a special type of skin cell called dermal papilla that surrounds the base of the hair follicle. These cells are essential in determining hair formation, growth, texture, and thickness.
When hair loss occurs, the number of these cells surrounding each follicle (which should be around 1,000) begins to decrease.
