Artificial intelligence tools that explore non-intuitive mathematical patterns appear able to tackle a wide range of mathematical problems, including ones where no progress has been made for decades.
Although AI models typically struggle to solve the kinds of mathematical problems that trouble humans, they do have some success with certain problems. For this reason, most mathematicians are reluctant to spend extra time learning how to use AI as part of their research.
