Researching ways to extend battery life

A small change in how new lithium-ion batteries are charged could extend their lifespan by 50% on average. Battery manufacturers around the world can put this discovery into practice immediately. Extending battery life could be particularly important for improving energy storage in electric vehicles and power grids.
“The great thing is that we haven’t changed the battery chemistry at all,” he said. William Chu Researchers at Stanford University in California say they’ve made only a small change to the way the batteries are made, altering the final steps of production.
