This is the year of the moon, and it has already begun. The Vulcan rocket's first launch on January 8 marked the beginning of the largest mission ever experienced on the Moon, thanks to NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program.
The first CLPS mission was Astrobotic's Peregrine lander, an unmanned craft launched on Vulcan, scheduled to reach the moon's surface on February 23rd. It may have been the first time a private company landed on the moon, but Peregrine suffered a fuel leak and will now be unable to land…
