There has been a surge in chickenpox cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo and some of its neighbouring countries. More than 15,000 cases have been reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo alone The death toll has now surpassed 500, already surpassing the previous record 2023 total. Other infections can lead to lingering complications, such as Long COVID, which can occur even after a mild bout of COVID-19. So does MPOX pose such a risk?
