How-to enthusiasts tend to talk about creativity as if it has a fixed purpose. What we know from the beginning eventually becomes a novel, a symphony, or a painting. Writers and musicians who have struggled with creative uncertainty know this is an unlikely prospectus. If they absolutely have to talk about it, they cite “artistic vision” and leave it at that.
