The Olympics are back on, and so is the battle to catch dopers (see How Does Olympic Doping Test and Is It Enough?), but why are we so hung up on the use of performance-enhancing drugs in the first place?
There are many reasons to compete against them. One is that sport is just what it should be: people tune in to watch the best players go up against each other, but we like to feel like there's a level playing field.
Targeting doping makes sense to prevent athletes from gaining an unfair advantage, and there is also a need to crack down on health reasons.
