Hurricane Beryl strengthened from a tropical depression to a major hurricane in just one day before striking the islands of Grenada this month. The most powerful storm on record for this early season left several people dead and caused widespread damage across the islands. In the week that followed, the hurricane pounded other parts of the Caribbean, Latin America and the US Gulf Coast, leaving more than 300,000 homes and businesses without power due to a heat wave.
