As the number of weight-loss drugs on the market grows, so does confusion about the appropriate time for doctors to encourage their patients to start using them, especially when it comes to children. Now, the situation is made even more confusing by conflicting advice from the two major U.S. health care organizations.
Last year, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) shocked people by recommending weight-loss drugs for children as young as 12 years old in an effort to combat soaring childhood obesity rates.
