According to Jonathan Haidt’s best-selling book, anxious generationthe proliferation of smartphones and the resulting exposure to social media among children and young people is damaging their mental health, resulting in an “anxious generation.” That’s Hite’s title.
But a closer look at the data shows that such thinking is misguided. The meaning and causes of increased anxiety among young people remain complex and unclear. But simply put, when it comes to phones and new technology, it’s often the parents, not the kids, who are overly concerned.
