Like many Brits, I had always been vaguely aware of the existence of a place called the Pitcairn Islands. It would be difficult to point to it on a map, much less to name which ocean it is in. But I just went there. A British overseas territory in the South Pacific, it’s a four-day boat ride from Tahiti and more than 500 kilometers from the nearest inhabited island, but it was worth the epic journey.
Pitcairn’s history is fascinating. This was the final destination of some and most of the Bounty’s rebels in 1790.
