After a long and eventful night of talks, COP29 in Baku concluded in the early hours of November 24th with a deal that would see rich countries pump billions of dollars into poorer countries over the next 10 years to fight climate change. It finally closed. Despite the sheer numbers involved, this is an agreement that seemingly pleases no one and calls into question the entire COP climate summit process.
The financing agreement was the main focus of the meeting in Azerbaijan’s capital.
