Silicon Valley wants to use nuclear power to support energy-intensive data centers that help train and deploy artificial intelligence models. But realistic timelines suggest that the U.S. nuclear renaissance will have at best a limited impact during a period when electricity demand is skyrocketing.
Global electricity usage from data centers is already on track to double by 2026. In the United States, data centers are currently the fastest growing source of energy demand as the country’s energy needs are rapidly growing.
