A funny thing in gardening is that sometimes the most counterintuitive ideas turn out to be the most effective, so about 10 years ago when the Internet suddenly became flooded with an intriguing new technique for propagating rose plants using potatoes, I was keen to try it out.
The basic idea is this: instead of inserting the cut end of a rose cutting into bare soil as is the usual practice, you insert it into a raw potato and then bury it in a pot filled with compost – this method is said to produce better results in home gardens.
