Hopes for a strong stance from COP28 President Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber on phasing out the production and use of fossil fuels were dashed at the climate change summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A draft agreement on the world’s approach to fossil fuels makes no mention of phasing out the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions that drive climate change, leaving negotiators with an even wider gap than expected. There is only about a day left to reach a compromise.
