The smell of death typically repels tourists, but in Sydney this week, many people were drawn to the city to witness – and smell – a rare flower that emits a scent reminiscent of rotting meat.
In the bustling city known for its beaches and vibrant food scene, visitors gathered at the Royal Botanic Gardens to catch a glimpse of the Amorphophallus titanum, also called the “corpse flower.” This rare and endangered flower blooms only once every few years, for just 24 hours, attracting a long line of tourists.
