Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has left so many mines planted across the country that it would take 700 years to clear them, researchers say. To make the task more manageable, Ukrainian scientists are using artificial intelligence to identify priority areas for mine clearance, but researchers predict some mines will have to remain as permanent “scars” on the country.
