Just over a year after the previous MPOX outbreak was deemed no longer a global emergency, the World Health Organization (WHO) has once again sounded the alarm, declaring the MPOX outbreak in Central Africa a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, was first designated a PHEIC in July 2022 due to its rapid spread to various countries where it had not been reported before.
