Amazon has announced a free course to teach its employees skills in artificial intelligence as part of its competitive landscape with tech giants like Microsoft and OpenAI. The initiative, named “AI Ready,” offers eight free AI and generative AI courses aiming to reach up to 2 million people by 2025. The company has expressed its hope for the courses to become increasingly ubiquitous, according to the announcement made on Monday. Targeting business, non-technical, and professional developers, Amazon’s courses include “Introduction to Generative Artificial Intelligence,” “Prompt Engineering Fundamentals,” and “Low-Code Machinery on AWS.” To engage learners, Amazon refers to research finding that 73% of employers prioritize hiring talent with AI skills. The courses are an extension of Amazon’s commitment and efforts to make AI education accessible and available to all who are willing to learn, said Director of Products and Services for AWS Training and Certification, Jeni Troutman.
The launch of AI Ready reflects a shift in the corporate landscape heavily influenced by AI. This change has included people being fired from jobs after performing well with AI-powered technology. Hence, Amazon and other top technology companies, such as Microsoft, have been doubling salary and benefits to retain AI talent in a competitive labor market. For instance, Google is currently in talks to invest “hundreds of millions of dollars” into an AI bot startup, Character.AI, according to Reuters last week.
